From La Fortuna/Arenal

Route 145, Route 606

Take the road around Lake Arenal, until you cross the town of Tilaran. The route continues to the village of Quebrada Grande. Here begins the dirt road to Monteverde, then you will pass the villages of El Dos de Tilarán and Cabeceras.

From here you are 45 minutes away from Santa Elena.
Reaching Santa Elena is a soccer field, turn right, between the soccer field and Public school, up to the health clinic of Monteverde, continue down the hill to the cemetery. Once there turn right, and continue descending, to 350 meters you will see the entrance and sign to Valle Campanas.

From Guanacaste

Route 1 (Interamericana), Route 145

Take the South Interamerican Highway until the intersection to Monteverde at a place called La Irma, turn left to later pass the town of Las Juntas de Abangares and continue the route to Monteverde for approximately 1.5 hours on gravel road. Reaching Santa Elena is a soccer field, turn right, between the soccer field and Public school, up to the health clinic of Monteverde, continue down the hill to the cemetery. Once there turn right, and continue descending, to 350 meters you will see the entrance and sign to Valle Campanas.​

If you are thinking of renting a vehicle, we suggest that this is an all-rounder, as the roads to Monteverde are gravel.

From San José

Route 1 (Interamericana), Route 606

Take the north Interamerican Highway towards Puntarenas and Guanacaste, about two hours is the intersection to Puntarenas, but continue on the road following the signs to Guanacaste, 18 kilometers later it will be a restaurant called Caballo Blanco, then go over the bridge and river " Aranjuez ", one kilometer later turn right at the entrance to Sardinal (just where there is a gas station) continue to the right and then go through the town of Sardinal, pass the soccer field, turn left and stay on the road. Then you will pass Guacimal, a small town along the way, later there is an intersection where the gravel road begins to Monteverde for approximately 20 kilometers. During the journey you will pass the villages of Guaria, Sardinal and Llanos.
Reaching the center of Santa Elena Monteverde, pavement begins again (On the left is a stable called "El Rodeo"), at 50 meters from the stable you must turn left twice consecutively by gravel road. Continue until you reach the cemetery, once there take the road to the left that descends a steep hill, at 350 meters and you will see the entrance sign to Valle Campanas.​
